Every time I save a graphics file on my smartphone, OneDrive asks me if I want this directory to be included in photo backup. They usually also assist you in locating these files on the phone. OneDrive (Photos module), Google Drive, Synology apps and so on - they all do this. Photo-centric apps have built-in functionality to remove uploaded files from the smartphone, because that's the common use case. Once you have this setup, feel free to delete whatever from your phone, as going beyond a 3-2-1 is absurd overkill for 99% of consumers. It's a bit of a pain in the ass at first, but it only takes one catastrophic failure to make you glad you took some precautions. This keeps the data safe if the NAS is destroyed in an event like a house fire or just back luck with your NAS hardware. If you're ok with paying a subscription, online services like BackBlaze let you backup data to them whenever with less hassle overall, or you can set it to a friend or family member's NAS. Personally I'm a lazy bum and I keep it locked away at my job.

The cheap and easy way is grab a 4-8 TB portable drive, make a password protected back up to it once a month or every other month depending on how important the data is, and store it somewhere else secure. This makes sure if you accidentally delete a file you can restore it from a snapshot, and if a hard drive fails, you can rebuild the array without losing data. To not get excessive with it, you can just target a new folder locally.
You'll want to either use Snapshot Replication or Hyper Backup to take semi-regular "snapshots" of your photos. Tier 1 is obviously just the data itself, you can just keep it in the folder you're importing it from (Probably Moments or DS Photo right?) This is generally called a 3-2-1 backup plan. What you want is a multi-level backup, generally having at least 3 copies, in 2 places, with 1 being off-site.
